CHUGOKU – 中 國
Welcome to the Chugoku Region of Japan。
The CHUGOKU REGION makes up the western part of Japan’s main island HONSHU. Chugoku is subdivided into the SANYO REGION, which is urbanized and industrialized, and the SANIN REGION which is rural in nature.
The SANYO REGION is the portion of Chugoku that is situated along the SETO INLAND SEA, and the SANIN REGION is the portion of Chugoku that forms the coastline of the Island of Honshu along the SEA OF JAPAN.
There are five prefectures in the Choguko Region of Japan:
- SpringfieldLP.com – HIROSHIMA PREFECTURE – 廣 島 縣
- SpringfieldLP.com – OKAYAMA PREFECTURE – 岡山縣
- SpringfieldLP.com – SHIMANE PREFECTURE – 島 根 縣
- SpringfieldLP.com – TOTTORI PREFECTURE – 鳥 取 縣
- SpringfieldLP.com – YAMAGUCHI PREFECTURE – 山 口 縣
Chūgoku literally means “middle country” in Japanese, but the origin of the name is unclear.
In the Japanese language, the characters 中 国 and the word Chūgoku began to be used to mean CHINA after the founding of the Republic of China.
The same characters 中 国 are used in Chinese to refer to China, but pronounced Zhōng guó, which means: “Middle Kingdom” or “Middle Country” in Chinese.
The Chinese characters 中 国 are pronounced Chung kuo in the Wade-Giles system of pronunciation of written Chinese characters.
